The Blue Lamp

The Blue Lamp is a new design by Sarah Peake in collaboration with Rupert Merton. A monolithic ceramic form is finished in a matt, deep ultramarine glaze, its saturated colour lending the piece a quiet intensity. Simple in silhouette yet rich in presence, the lamp celebrates the materiality of clay and glaze, allowing subtle variations in tone and texture to emerge across its surface. Both sculptural and functional, the Blue Lamp brings a sense of calm focus to a space, its deep blue surface absorbing and reflecting light with understated depth.

The Design

The Blue Lamp continues Studio Peake’s long collaboration with Rupert Merton, whose ceramics move beyond function into art. Each piece is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, forming a tall, monolithic silhouette that emphasises the quiet strength and simplicity of the material. Subtle shifts in proportion and surface arise through the making process, ensuring that every lamp carries the trace of the maker’s hand. The ceramic body is finished in a deep ultramarine glaze developed by Rupert through years of experimentation.

Meet The Maker

Rupert Merton

Rupert Merton is a potter working between South West London and Catalonia, creating sculptural ceramics in stoneware and porcelain. After a career in music, he returned to clay, where function meets art. His work reflects a love of process, permanence, and the idea that pottery can outlast us and still tell a story.
